Did Arsenal Really Make A £56million Bid For Belotti?

Many football fans could tell you that Italian club managers have a certain flair to them when it comes to giving out statements. This is exactly what happened with Gianluca Petrachi who reportedly decided to say Arsenal have made a monster bid for their top player – striker Andrea Belotti. Here are his words as reported by Sky Sports:

“We received and refused a €65m (£56m) offer from Arsenal for Andrea Belotti, but it does not reflect the value of the player. Anyway, he is going nowhere for now. We want to enjoy him, then we’ll see what happens. We intend to keep Belotti and president Urbano Cairo signed this important buy-out clause. I think he’s worth more than they have offered.”

Sky Sports News HQ have apparently been told by Arsenal that no bid has been made. What Torino’s boss said does seem unlikely to ever have happened as why would Arsene Wenger spend that much on a 23-year-old who would most likely only make the bench at the Emirates. When you have Sanchez and Giroud in top form, Danny Welbeck just returned to action plus Lucas Perez looking good, why would you spend so much money on someone who hasn’t proven themselves yet even if they have scored 25 goals in their last 51 games for Torino. There’s also the fact that the Premier League is completely different from any other league so 15 goals in Serie A might not mean so much when translated to Premier League football.

Belotti is certainly talented having scored 17 goals in 21 games for club and country so far this season and it is interesting that he has been linked to the Gunners, but this transfer just seems like a no-go for so many logical reasons – time will reveal all but not many deals of this size usually get done in this window.
