Wenger confirms injury blow

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that striker Danny Welbeck has sustained a groin injury during the club’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.

The England international was named in the Gunners’ starting line-up for the 6th game running, as he looked to have put injury troubles behind him and become a regular at the Emirates. However, Welbeck was substituted after 73 minutes during their Super Sunday clash with Chelsea, after continuing his good form from the season and having a fairly good game.

Wenger confirmed that the forward had sustained an injury, but admitted that he is not yet clear on how long he will be unavailable for.

“He has a groin problem,” Wenger said. “I don’t know how severe it is but it looks like a ‘good’ groin problem, not an easy one.” [Sky Sports]

Since signing for Arsenal from Manchester United for £16m in 2014, Welbeck’s time at the club has been hampered by injuries – but whenever he does manage a run of games for the club he usually impresses, having scored 20 goals in 52 starts for the Gunners.

It could be a bitter blow for both Arsenal and Danny Welbeck, groin injuries are usually a harsh mistress. Welbeck looked to be discovering his best form early on in the season, and was clearly admired as a starter by Wenger.
