Wenger Faces An Important Decision

Arsenal are fighting for a spot in next years’ Champions League with Chelsea and Tottenham. The Gunners have a great chance of finishing third if the Blues and the Spurs finish their game in a draw. For Wenger’s team to be able to take advantage of this possible situation, they must win their last two fixtures of the season. The biggest decision the Frenchman has is having to choose between goalkeepers. Both Fabianski and Szczesny have had inconsistent performances costing Arsenal important points in their season.

According to DailyMail, the stakes are pretty high and the wrong choice could cost Arsenal a place in next years’ Champions League. Szczesny managed a great performance against QPR, but it is pretty hard to know how the next match will be for the Polish player. Even if the past few months were a nightmare he looks determined to fight for a spot in the first team despite rumors that say he is as good as gone. The issue with Szczesny is that he is still young and lacks experience and this is not the time to take chances. If Arsenal don’t finish in the top 4 teams many changes will be made within the club.

Fabianski, who has had some excellent performances during Arsenal’s recent fixtures picked up an injury and gave Szczesny the opportunity to step back in and achieve three consecutive clean sheets. Before that, Fabianski was looking better with each match and was actually seen as the first choice for the end of the season run-in. Unfortunately a hip injury prevented the 28 year old goalkeeper from retaining his spot.

When asked about the goalkeeper situation, Wenger replied that this is yet another decision he will have to make. Even though the Frenchman has been with the club for a really long time and has faced these run-ins many times before, you could really tell that the pressure is weighing pretty hard on the entire club with only two matches left of the season.
